Exciting News!

Whew, I can't believe it's been almost a week since I blogged. I had something I wanted to blog about on Thursday but since I was out Wednesday with a migraine, I was actually busy at work on Thursday (I think I've mentioned it before but in two weeks we have a conference that I'm responsible for). It's still a topic that I want to blog about so I'll do it later this week.

Now for some big news....Stephen and I found a new apartment this weekend!!! Our lease is up at our current place at the end of November and neither one of us really likes where we currently live so I did a bunch of research online and in person starting a few months ago. We came up with a list of about 20 places and then picked our top 5. I eliminated two of the places off the list because they weren't going to have an apartment in our price range available around the first of December. Then on Saturday we went and looked at the remaining 3, went to lunch and made a decision about where we wanted to live. I am so excited!! It's a one bedroom (yea for two separate rooms!!), with a washer and dryer (yea for not having to haul laundry somewhere else!!). The gym in the building is open 24 hours a day so I can go before work (the gym where we currently live doesn't open until 7 am). Plus we are only 1/2 a block from the Metro...where we live now is about a mile from the Metro. There's lots of restaurants within walking distance and the grocery store is only a few blocks away. Our vehicles will be parked in a garage so during the winter we won't have to scrape off ice and snow! It's going to be more money every month but it's well worth it since it's more convenient. The people that live in our new area are similar to Stephen and I (young professionals who work in DC) compared with where we live now which is a lot of illegal activity (I think this anyways, but when no one in an apartment ever goes to work and there's other people knocking on the door at all hours, it's suspicious).

On Sunday I got in a 7 mile training run. I did my standard 4:1 (four minutes running, 1 minute walking). It was chilly out yesterday morning but once I got started, I didn't notice the weather too much. I did have some bathroom issues during my run but that's all I'm going to say about that. Those 7 miles completely tired me out...I took a 30-45 minute nap while Stephen was watching football and was asleep by 8:30 last night!

Oh, and funny story, there were two races/events going on yesterday in Downtown DC. One was a 10K for some policeman charity thing and the other was a breast cancer walk. At some point during my run, I must have gotten on the route that the breast cancer walk was on because as I was running past a group of people they started cheering for me and clapping. And of course I had on my pink fleece yesterday so I looked like I could have been doing the breast cancer walk. It was nice though to hear some cheering while I was running...now when I think about it, it makes me laugh.

Today's Plan:
Activity: No running, rest day after long run--walk at lunch, yoga and arm weights at home
Pre Breakfast Snack: 1/2 banana with 1 Tbsp PB
Breakfast: 1/3 cup oatmeal with remaining 1/2 banana, 2 Tbsp flax and made with 2/3 cup skim milk
Lunch: Whole Wheat wrap with hummus, spinach, and pepper strips, 2 clementines, 1 carrot, baggie of grape tomatoes, 1 yoplait light
Snack: 100 cal pack of Chips Ahoy Candy Bites
Dinner: Frittata made with Egg Beaters and spinach, toast, salad

Great news about the apartment, but its more impressive that you got cheered for on your Sunday run. The naps I have after my run are sometimes the highlight of my day, you feel so accomplished and rejuvenated after. :D

Delurking to ask:

When you do 4:1, what pace would you say you run at? I'm trying to build up my running endurance and this sounds like it might work for me. I'll probably be trying it at the gym on a treadmill though..

Thanks!
